Corporate & Investment Banking

The role of the Corporate and Social Responsibility function within Société Générale's Corporate and Investing Banking arm (SGCIB/CSR) is to coordinate all Group initiatives worldwide and to ensure that the bank meets each of its commitments and lives up to the expectations of its stakeholders when it comes to social development and the protection of the environment.

Responsible Finance at SG CIB
The first priority of our responsible finance program consists in addressing the environmental and social risks associated with the activities of our clients. While it is incumbent upon our clients to manage these risks, it is important for us to ensure that our commitments to them and to our business partners are responsible commitments. Société Générale has been a signatory of the Equator Principles since 2007 and has taken appropriate measures to ensure their application to project financing in the bank. Toady, the Group has taken a new step forward, developing a wider Environmental and Social Risk Management system (ESRM) that will gradually be implemented in 2010 and 2011. The ESRM system will integrate the Equator Principles and the internal processes through which they will apply.
The second priority of our responsible finance program is to develop new business opportunities that contribute to the sustainability of the environment and society writ-large. The Group not only provides “green financing” (renewable energies, waste management systems, and public transport), but is also a leader in Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) research and, through its joint-venture, orbeo, specializes in carbon market services.
